Beaune to Lyon

We roamed around Beaune until early afternoon - it is quite a splendid little wine place. The life centers on on the production of their expensive wines. The powerful dukes of Burgundy established the groundwork for this town's prosperity. It is a NEAT town with beautiful buildings! We ended up eating lunch at the same place as we had dinner last night and guess what, Charlie had escargot again! We met the neatest young guy from Adelaide, Australia who was working for a few months here in Beaune, but isn't going back home until next spring. He is working as the sole waiter in a french restaurant and professes to speak no french! He was really funny - he picked grapes this fall here. He is lonely though and talked non-stop to us!

Leaving town we followed a lot of one lane roads (or 2 lane bicycle routes) through the vineyards heading south. The vineyards are beautiful - all the grapes have been picked.

We are in our hotel room in Lyon and still "hyperventilating" about what we went through to find our hotel,. That was the worst experience ever - we ended up going through a long toll tunnel twice that we had no idea was there the first time. The first time we were relatively close to where the hotel was, but after the tunnel, we were on the other side of town. We have never seen such a complicated town - we may never leave, because we can't figure out how to get out of here! I think that we were both in a state of shock when we got to the hotel!
