We are in a driving mode now - we can see the end of our time here so we are going a little crazy and just taking off in every direction. Yesterday, we took off east in a direction not previously planned and drove to Dresden and spent the night there. Charlie celebrated his birthday there.
Last night, Charlie remarked that it looked like it was snowing! Well, when we got up this morning it was indeed snowing. We had snow flurries, off and on, all the way to Krakow. Poland is really working hard on their transportation infrastructure and the hi
Tomorrow we are heading to Bratislava, Slovakia. This will be a new city and country we will be driving through.
We had an interesting discussion over dinner tonight: English! I brought up that it has been bothering me that in all of the countries that we have visited that we just start speaking English in any interactions with other people. We do know the "please, thank you, hello, and good by" in French and German, but what about Polish, Danish, Czech, Dutch, Belgium, Slovenia, Italian, etc???? We did/and do not speak a single word in any of those languages. We know that English is the common language, but it still bothers us. We both kind of excused ourselves by saying that we don't get upset if they can't understand us--but, that is not enough! So, that is our thought for the day.
Snow! Awesome! Better drive super careful! I don't know anything about Bratislava. Or Slovakia for that matter!
ReplyDeleteGood thoughts re: language. It is hard as there are so many different languages in such a relatively small space. But you are right....learning the basic 'please, thank you, hello, goodbye' gets you at least a smile =)
Hey guys! I want to wish BOTH of you a happy birthday since I can't get them in the correct order! Continue having a marvelous driving trip!
