Leaving Normandy

We got an earlier start today, checked out of our hotel, and headed to Utah Beach. There was a very interesting film there. A new visitor center is in the planning and suppose to be finished by 2012. From the beach we drove to Ste. Mere Eglise - here is where the paratroopers landed off-target, and a few got caught on the church's spikes that come out from the top of the church. If you have seen the movie, "The Longest day" you will remember this.

From here we said, "Good by" to Normandy and headed south. The countryside is beautiful and France has so many neat, old buildings. We are spending the night in Tours.

We had lunch at McDonald's - so far, I had been batting 100% at being able to get a PLAIN cheeseburger - no problem in Denmark and Germany. Well, I failed in France - it came with lots of mustard! Oh well, I should have known better. I had french fries for lunch!

Tomorrow we are roaming through the Loire Valley.
