Slovenia Part II

We did a little exploring today. First, the navigator suggested a trip up the road into the Triglavski Narodni Park. We didn't understand it to be a road that had an 18% grade or that it was under repair. We soon found out. We have added some great pictures to the slideshow. We soon tired of this excitement and came back down the hill.

It was then on to Bled. Well, almost, we took a little detour, got lost, found our way to the right road and were soon in Bled. Here we got frustrated in trying to find places to get good pictures of the castle, church, or lake. (Of course, I should add that the driver and navigator were getting quite frustrated with each other also.) Plus there seemed to be no places to eat a quick meal so we just headed back to Kranjska Gora. That area is beautiful though.

We thought we had a road figured out it, but it was going the wrong way. We turned about and found a road signed posted for towns in the direction we needed to go. It quickly turned into a 1 and 1/2 lane road winding through the village, then the newly asphalted road became gravel with us driving through a small herd of cattle. We, or I should say Mary truly had no idea of where we were or what country we were going to end up in. We truly were out in the middle of nowhere. After 10 km of winding we found a roadside monument describing events that happened here in September 1944 - WWII. The Nazis burned the whole village!

We had hope that we were on track now (The driver never had doubts.) 2 km later there was the village that was the first place we needed to be; 6 km later we were at the village we were headed for and one with a sign pointing to our town. (Did I mention that Charlie saw a sign when we first got on the road saying 12 km to Radovna and 18 km to Mojstrana. The villages turned up as advertised. Mary missed the sign and Charlie didn't tell her about it - (and he wonders why I was a little freaked out!) See pictures in the slide show.

We got back to Kranjska Gora and found a place for a bite to eat and a place to buy cards etc. Kranjska Gora is a busy little place with lots of ski lifts and building going on. They even have added snow making equipment so in winter this must be an exciting place.

Slovenia is an absolutely beautiful country.
