Copenhagen

Today we had a late breakfast since we got in so late last night. I had a Danish Pastry which was amazing. There is no relation between this one and what we have at home. The one here is a flaky pastry with almond flavoring and fruit - delicious!

Then we headed to Denmark over the Oresund Bridge and Tunnel. It is an amazing engineering feat. It is the longest combined road and rail bridge in Europe opened in 2000. It does cost 38 Euros to cross it which is $55!

As soon as you cross the bridge you are at the Copenhagen airport and just a few miles from the city. We spent the day going down to the village of Dragor which is an old 18th century seafaring village. It was a busy port on the herring-rich Baltic Sea in the early middle ages. The cottages and stores are really quaint. We actually got a good view of the Oresund Bridge from there.

For lunch we had our first Smorrebrod, which is an open-face sandwich. Charlie had a herring and scrambled egg one and I had a Camembert and jelly one. They were quite good.

We are staying at at the Hilton hotel at the airport which works great, because there is a metro right outside the hotel door to the city.

Denmark is expensive - we shared a cheeseburger and small bottle of water for dinner and it cost 200 Kroner which equals about $40! I don't think that we will be buying much here.

Tomorrow we are exploring Copenhagen.
